“Mater” is an 8-year-old gelding standing 15.1 hands and weighing 1,300 lbs. He’s a big, thick-made horse with solid bone and a great foot—the kind that’s built to last a lifetime.
Mater is a finished head horse. He’s been hauled to everything from #8 jackpots all the way up to the #13s and #14s. He stands quiet and flat-footed in the box and is one of the best-scoring horses we’ve ever had. He runs hard to the cow and has a bunch of read and rate to him. He’s strong to the horn and does everything but rope the steer for you. He’s so easy and simple, yet has plenty of speed and talent, making him suitable for ropers of nearly every skill level. Mater has been heeled on quite a bit as well and is just as easy on that end. He reads the play and stops hard, especially for a horse of his size.
Mater started his career as a ranch horse and has been used outside extensively. He’s branded calves and doctored yearlings in the feedyard in the middle of an Idaho winter. He’s quick and cowy, making him fun to sort on. He’ll go all day and is enjoyable to use no matter the job.
Mater is very gentle. You can leave him standing in the pasture for months at a time and trust that he’ll saddle up safe and ride off quiet when you’re ready to get back on him. He’s great on the ground. Whether you’re shoeing, clipping, or bathing him, he stands like a true gentleman. He’s 100% sound and blemish-free.
