Echo is a 7-year-old gray gelding that checks every box—honest, broke, gentle, and sharp-looking with all the buttons in the right places. Standing 15 hands, he’s the ideal size: stout enough to do a full day’s work but handy and athletic enough to get around in any kind of country. We’ve owned him for over a year now, and in that time, he’s proven himself on every kind of job. Echo is a finished heel horse with all the experience and handle to back it up. Quiet in the box, consistent down the lane, strong to the horn, and automatic on the face—he’s ready for jackpots or to go straight to work. He’s also been used extensively for day work, dragging calves, doctoring cattle outside, sorting, branding, and covering big country. He ropes both ends but is most solid and confident on the heel side, as he’s been my go-to heel horse for all rodeos and jackpots for sometime now.
Echo has been used at the sale barn, in tight alleyways, around fresh cattle, and under pressure—he handles it all with a level head and willing attitude. He’s never fresh, even with time off. Saddle him cold or bridleless and bareback—he’s the same horse every time. His kind, quiet demeanor makes him safe for any level of rider, but his handle and cow sense make him the kind a hand can appreciate. He’s one-handed broke, rides soft in the face, moves off leg, and has a deep stop and a smooth, correct turn-around.
He’s also a seasoned trail horse who’s seen it all. Echo has been ridden through steep hills, rocky creeks, deep brush, timber, and open plains. He crosses water, logs, bridges, and ditches without hesitation. He rides out solo or in a group, loads and hauls like a pro, and stands tied quietly all day. He’s been around machinery, vehicles, barking dogs, wildlife, and just about any other distraction you can name—and takes it all in stride.
With his classy gray coat, solid conformation, and work ethic, Echo is the kind of horse that draws attention for both his looks and performance. Whether you’re needing a finished heel horse, a reliable ranch mount, or a safe and broke trail partner, Echo fits the bill. He’s broke, gentle, experienced, and ready for his next chapter—horses like him are hard to come by and even harder to let go.
