Everyone appreciates a horse that’s put together right—and ZZ checks every box. This striking black rabicano gelding and son of Metallic Cat has that look you don’t forget, the kind that turns heads and earns a second glance every time. Homed at our private facility in Calvert, Texas for you to try, we are proud to offer him on HorseBid.com. He represents a hard-to-find combination of talent, versatility, and disposition, and he is in his prime with a mature mind. ZZ was originally slated for the League of Legends sale, but due to no fault of his own and simply us downsizing our program, he is now being made available to the public - be the lucky one to take him home.
ZZ is as well-rounded as they come. Whether you’re looking for a top ranch horse, a competitive arena mount, or a dependable partner to enjoy outside, he’s ready. He’s naturally gentle, kind, and level-headed—safe for beginners, yet still enjoyable for a seasoned rider. He’s been ridden by kids in the cutting and sorting pens as well as out on the ranch, and he stays the same honest, steady gelding even with time off. ZZ has been extensively trained by Sarah & Mozaun McKibben, which shows in every aspect of his ride and handle. He also has a quirky, personable side and is the kind of horse that truly looks for his person—one that wants to be your best friend as much as your partner.
When it’s time to go to work, ZZ delivers. Drop your hand on a cow and enjoy the ride—he’s stylish, confident, and knows his job. In the arena he’s broke and responsive; outside, he’s just as reliable. He’s been ridden all over Texas ranch country and through the Arizona desert, handling running water, deep mud, thick brush, rocky terrain, and cactus without hesitation. He’s sure-footed and goes wherever you point him.
Under saddle, he’s smooth and comfortable with a natural “whoa” mindset. Think stop, and he’s there. He’s easy to guide with correct spins, clean lead changes, and a strong stop. His jog is slow and easy to sit all day, and his lope has that soft, rocking-chair feel. When asked to move out, he has a solid extended trot that can cover country.
ZZ has also been roped on in the arena and out in the pasture. He rates naturally, finds his spot, and makes your timing easy. He carries zero nervous energy and gives you confidence to handle whatever job is in front of you. He’s as broke and trustworthy as they come—he’s been ridden bridleless through town, has gone through the drive-thru to pick up orders, and has even stood quietly outside the store while we stepped in, showing the kind of mind and patience that’s hard to find.
What truly sets ZZ apart is his rarity. He is a black rabicano and a direct son of Metallic Cat—the leading NCHA & NRCHA sire. Metallic Cat earned $637,711 in NCHA, was the NCHA Open Futurity Champion and Horse of the Year, and has produced over $40 million in offspring earnings. Out of more than 3,372 AQHA foals, only 20 have been black—less than 1%—making ZZ part of an extremely limited group.
Beyond pedigree and ability, ZZ is simply easy to own. He’s user-friendly, dependable, and enjoyable every time you saddle him. He loads, stands tied, and is great for the farrier, and he is up to date on all vaccinations and worming. We are happy to assist with shipping arrangements nationwide. He’s been a pleasure to have, and we know his next owner will feel the same.
