“Cowboys N Bullets” aka “Harlan” is a 5yr old, 16.1hh, registered Appaloosa gelding. Harlan is a super sweet, docile, laid back gelding, who absolutely loves trail riding and would make a great husband horse! Harlan has a very kind heart, and loves a relaxing adventure out on the trails! He will also dabble in ring work as well, he is safe, and has an old soul.
On the trails, Harlan will lead, follow, go out alone and in groups. He is safe for anyone to go hit the trails with and he takes care of his rider. Harlan crosses logs, rocks, water, he is traffic safe, doesn’t care about bikes, wildlife, dogs, etc. He can take a joke and makes for a relaxing ride. Drop the reins and let Harlan follow the group, he will take care of you. Harlan will jog and lope out on the trails and drop back down to a relaxing walk right after. He is brave and willing, he will take the lead and show the way for the group. Harlan would make a great camping partner as well, he stands tied quietly and loves to explore! Whether you, your husband, your kid, or your grandma want to go out and have fun the trails, Harlan will take great care of you!
Harlan has smooth, rhythmic, gaits. His lope is very lofty; and very comfortable. I would consider Harlan more of a push ride, yet he will move out when asked without a crop or spurs. He moves off of leg nicely, on the trails and in the ring. He is also doing well with neck reining. Harlan backs up very easily, and will pivot both ways. But even though he has “buttons”, his aids are still beginner and user friendly, making him safe enough for a kid, a husband, etc.
In the ring, Harlan will walk, jog, trot, lope, canter, knows his leads, and is a very simple guy to ride. He will ride on the buckle, or collected. He listens well to voice commands, and will ride off of your seat. He rides in a simple snaffle, you could ride him in a halter and lead rope, I even rode him with out a bridle. He is gentle all around. I have lightly introduced Harlan to fences and he took right to it. He is still green and learning over fences but he has been very honest and does a good job. Harlan really likes to please his rider and he is very intelligent.
In the barn, Harlan is very easy to work around. He is safe for kids and beginners to work with. He has very good ground manners. The best word to describe this boy is “docile”. He doesn’t mind dogs running all over the place. Harlan stands well on the cross ties to be groomed, bathed, tacked, etc. He is good for the vet and farrier. Harlan is an easy keeper with no maintenance or supplements. When left in his stall for long periods of time, he will mildly crib. It’s usually when he runs out of hay, or it’s been a long day. I have not witnessed Harlan cribbing at all while turned out. Other than that, he has no other bad habits. Harlan is a babysitter in the pasture, he is super drama free and loves all horses. He currently lives with mares and geldings and stays out of the way. I wouldn’t call him a low man, just doesn’t like any trouble. He is easy to catch and will greet you at the gate.
Harlan truly has an old soul, he is very adored here as he is safe for anyone to play with. He is so easy to have around and has been such a joy to work with. He is always game for whatever I put him to that day. He does not have to be in a routine, and he has been a tack up and go type of guy. Harlan will self load into the trailer, trailers great, and ties to the trailer to get ready. This guy would make the perfect family horse, or all around partner!
